The Calliope River Markets & local history
Ten minutes from your room, a heritage village on the river hosts one of the region's biggest country markets. Here's how to make a morning of it.
Some of the best mornings near Parklands don't need a long drive at all. The Calliope River Historical Village — about 10 minutes north on the river — is a genuine slice of local heritage, and on market days it becomes a regional event.
The markets
The village hosts one of the largest country markets in the Gladstone region. Stalls run from around 7:30 am to 12:30 pm on market days, which fall roughly every two months through the year — recent 2026 dates were 8 March, 10 May, 12 July, 13 September and 8 November. Get there early for the best of the produce, plants and local makers.
The historical village
Outside of market days the village is a quiet nine-acre museum of restored timber buildings — a window into the region's settlement history, run by a dedicated local historical society. Note it's closed on Wednesdays.

Make a morning of it
Pair the markets with a riverside walk, then head back to the gardens at Parklands for a coffee — or carry on into Gladstone for the afternoon. It's the kind of easy, local morning that makes a stopover feel like a proper little break.
